House ValueState lawmakers are expected to pass legislation this week that will provide for a sales tax holiday on the weekend of Aug. 10 - 11. Once again, Massachusetts residents will be able to enjoy relief from the 6.25 percent sales tax on individual purchases of up to $2,500. So, if you are considering doing that big renovation - wait a few more weeks.

1. Plan Ahead - Many stores will write purchase orders early and run them on tax free weekend, allowing you to avoid the rush.

2. Keep Orders Small - Keep in mind that the sales tax is only waived for purchases up to $2,500. However, many home renovation products, such as hardwood floors, kitchen cabinets and boxes of tile can be run by the cashier in groups of $2,500, allowing you to enjoy the discount on large orders simply by swiping your credit card a few more times.

3. Look for Sales - Some stores run deep discounts on end-of-season products like grills and outdoor furniture to draw in crowds.
